New Vaccine Recommendations

- Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Vaccine (Gardasil)** – for prevention of cervical cancer. Recommended for girls 11–12 years old and young women up to 26.
- Rotavirus Vaccine (RotaTeq, Rotarix)** – for prevention of stomach flu in infants caused by the most common stomach virus, rotovirus. Universal immunization recommended at 2, 4 and 6 months of age.
- Chickenpox vaccine (Varivax) ** – booster recommended at age 4-6 years.
- Zostavax – for prevention of shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia in 60 and over. Efficacy 18-64%.
- Meningitis Vaccine (Menactra) – for prevention of the deadly meningococcal meningitis. This new improved vaccine produce antibodies that last much longer than the older vaccine (Menomuce). Recommended for ages 11-12 yr, 15-16 years, and upon entering college.
- Tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis Vaccine (Tdap) - Recommended for ages 10-18 years. Also recommended for adult 64 and under as a one dose booster.
